Juvenile Polyps as Lead Points in Adolescent Intussusception

Abstract

Intussusception is the commonest cause of intestinal obstruction in children up to three years of age. It is the telescoping of one part of the bowel into an adjacent part of bowel. This can lead to bowel perforation and ischaemia. The condition is usually idiopathic but can sometimes be caused by a pathologic lead point. In this report we present two cases of children who presented with intestinal obstruction secondary to intussusception from jejunal and ileal polyps respectively. Laparotomy with small bowel resection and anastomosis was done.
